And they ask you regarding Zul-Qarnain; say, “I shall recite his story to you.” 83 Verily We established his power on earth, and We gave him the ways and the means to all ends. 84 and so he chose the right means [in whatever he did]. 85 until, when he reached the setting of the sun, he found it setting in a spring of murky water and near it he found some people. We said, "Dhu'l-Qarnayn! You can either punish them or else you can treat them with gentleness." 86 He said, "As for one who wrongs, we will punish him. Then he will be returned to his Lord, and He will punish him with a terrible punishment. 87 As for he who believes and does good works he shall receive a fine reward in recompense and we shall speak to him with a mild command' 88 He travelled again 89 Until, when he came to the rising of the sun, he found it rising on a people for whom We had provided no covering protection against the sun. 90 So (it was). And We knew all concerning him. 91 Thereafter he followed a way. 92 Until when he arrived between the two mountains, he found beside them a people who well-nigh understood not a word. 93 They said, "O Dhul-Qarnayn, indeed Gog and Magog are [great] corrupters in the land. So may we assign for you an expenditure that you might make between us and them a barrier?" 94 He said, 'That wherein my Lord has established me is better; so aid me forcefully, and I will set up a rampart between you and between them. 95 Bring me blocks of iron; until when he had filled up the space between the two mountain sides, he said: Blow, until when he had made it (as) fire, he said: Bring me molten brass which I may pour over it. 96 So they [Gog and Magog] were not able to scale it, nor were they able to bore through it, 97 Said [the King]: "This is a mercy from my Sustainer! Yet when the time appointed by my Sustainer shall come, He will make this [rampart] level with the ground: and my Sustainer's promise always comes true!" 98 ۞ Upon that day We shall leave them surging on one another, and the Trumpet shall be blown, and We shall gather them together, 99 On that Day We shall present Gehenna (Hell) to the unbelievers, 100 whose eyes were covered against My remembrance, and they were not able to hear. 101
