(O Muhammad), they ask you about Dhu al-Qarnayn. Say: "I will give you an account of him." 83 Indeed We gave him authority in the land and bestowed him the means of everything. 84 And he followed a road 85 Till he reached the point of the setting sun, and saw it set behind a muddy lake, and near it found a people. We said: "O Dhu'l-Qarnain, you may either punish them or treat them with kindness." 86 He submitted, “Regarding one who has done injustice, we shall soon punish him – he will then be brought back to his Lord, Who will punish him severely.” 87 But as for him who believes and acts righteously, his will be a goodly reward and we shall enjoin upon him only mild commands." 88 Then he followed a road 89 Till, when he reached the rising-place of the sun, he found it rising on a people for whom We had appointed no shelter therefrom. 90 So, We encompassed in knowledge what was with him. 91 Then he followed a way 92 when he reached between the two barriers he found on one side of them a nation who could barely understand speech. 93 They said, "O Dhul-Qarnayn, indeed Gog and Magog are [great] corrupters in the land. So may we assign for you an expenditure that you might make between us and them a barrier?" 94 He said, “That which my Lord has given me control over is better, therefore help me with strength – I shall set up a barrier between you and them.” 95 Bring me ingots of iron." Then after he had filled up the space between the two mountain-sides, he said: "(Light a fire) and ply bellows." When he had made it (red like) fire, he said: "Bring me molten copper which I may pour on it." 96 Thus they were not able to mount it, nor were they able to burrow through it. 97 He said: This is a mercy from my Lord; but when the promise of my Lord cometh to pass, He will lay it low, for the promise of my Lord is true. 98 ۞ We shall leave them on that day surging like waves pressing one against the other, and the trumpet blast will be sounded, when We shall gather them all together. 99 Then We shall bring Hell right before the infidels 100 The ones whose eyes were covered from My remembrance, and who could not bear to hear Truth. 101
