Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Kaf-Ha-Ya-'Ain-Sad. 1 This is the story of the blessing of your Lord to His servant Zachariah. 2 When he called upon his Lord in a low voice, 3 Praying: "O my Lord! infirm indeed are my bones, and the hair of my head doth glisten with grey: but never am I unblest, O my Lord, in my prayer to Thee! 4 Indeed, I fear my kinsmen who will succeed me, for my wife is barren. Grant me a kinsman 5 "(One that) will (truly) represent me, and represent the posterity of Jacob; and make him, O my Lord! one with whom Thou art well-pleased!" 6 “O Zakaria! We give you the glad tidings of a son whose name is Yahya (John) – before him, We have not created anyone of this name.” 7 [Zachariah] exclaimed: "O my Sustainer! How can I have a son when my wife has always been barren and I have become utterly infirm through old age?" 8 [An angel] said, "Thus [it will be]; your Lord says, 'It is easy for Me, for I created you before, while you were nothing.' " 9 He (Zachariah) said: 'Lord, make for me a sign' He replied: 'Your sign is that you shall not speak to people for three nights being without fault' 10 Then he came forth unto his people from the sanctuary, and signified to them: Glorify your Lord at break of day and fall of night. 11 O Yahya! hold fast the book. And We vouchsafed unto him wisdom, while yet a child. 12 We gave him compassion and purity. He was a pious human being, 13 And was good to his parents and not forceful, nor disobedient. 14 So Peace on him the day he was born, the day that he dies, and the day that he will be raised up to life (again)! 15
