Kaf Ha Ya 'Ayn Sad. 1 The mention of thy Lord's mercy unto His servant Zachariah; 2 Behold! he cried to his Lord in secret, 3 Praying: "O my Lord! infirm indeed are my bones, and the hair of my head doth glisten with grey: but never am I unblest, O my Lord, in my prayer to Thee! 4 Lo! I fear my kinsfolk after me, since my wife is barren. Oh, give me from Thy presence a successor 5 who will be my heir and an heir to the House of Jacob, and make him, my Lord, satisfied' 6 [He was told], "O Zechariah, indeed We give you good tidings of a boy whose name will be John. We have not assigned to any before [this] name." 7 He said, "My Lord, how will I have a boy when my wife has been barren and I have reached extreme old age?" 8 Answered [the angel]: "Thus it is; [but] thy Sustainer says, 'This is easy for Me - even as I have created thee aforetime out of nothing'". 9 He said, "My Lord, grant me a sign!" He said, "Your sign will be that you will not speak to anyone for three successive days and nights, although sound in body." 10 Then he came forth unto his people from the sanctuary, and signified to them: Glorify your Lord at break of day and fall of night. 11 (To his son came the command): "O Yahya! take hold of the Book with might": and We gave him Wisdom even as a youth, 12 and a tenderness from Us, and purity; and he was godfearing, 13 and cherishing his parents, not arrogant, rebellious. 14 And peace on him on the day he was born, and on the day he dies, and on the day he is raised to life 15
