Mary (Maryam)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Kaf-Ha-Ya-'Ain-Sad. 1 Mention of the mercy of thy Lord to His bondman Zakariyya. 2 When he called out to his Sustainer in the secrecy of his heart, 3 saying: 'O my Lord, my bones are enfeebled, and my head glows silver with age. Yet, never Lord, have I been unblessed in prayer to You. 4 now I fear my kinsmen when I am gone. [I have no hope of their continuing my mission] for my wife is barren, so grant me a successor from Yourself, 5 who shall be my inheritor and the inheritor of the House of Jacob; and make him, my Lord, well-pleasing.' 6 "Zachariah, We bring you good news of a son whose name shall be John. We have not given such a name to anyone before." 7 He said: O my Lord! in what wise shall there be for me a boy, whereas my wife hath been barren, and surely have reached an age of extreme degree? 8 (The angel) answered: "Thus will it be. Your Lord said: 'This is easy for Me; for when I brought you into being you were nothing.' 9 He said, “My Lord, give me a sign”; He said, “Your token is that you will not speak to people for three nights, although in proper health.” 10 Then he came forth to his people from the sanctuary, and he beckoned unto them. hallow your Lord morning and evening. 11 O Yahya! hold fast the book. And We vouchsafed unto him wisdom, while yet a child. 12 And piety (for all creatures) as from Us, and purity: He was devout, 13 And kind to his parents, and he was not overbearing or rebellious. 14 Peace be upon him on the day he was born and the day he dies, and on him the day when he is raised up alive. 15
