Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Kaf- Ha-Ya-'Ain-Sad. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. 1 This is the story of the blessing of your Lord to His servant Zachariah. 2 When he called out to his Sustainer in the secrecy of his heart, 3 "Lord, my bones have weakened and my head has turned hoary with age, but never, Lord, have I been disappointed in my prayer to you: 4 And surely I fear my cousins after me, and my wife is barren, therefore grant me from Thyself an heir, 5 "Who shall inherit me, and inherit (also) the posterity of Ya'qub (Jacob) (inheritance of the religious knowledge and Prophethood, not the wealth, etc.). And make him, my Lord, one with whom You are Well-pleased!". 6 O Zakariyya! verily We give thee the glad tidings of a boy: his name shall be Yahya; We have not afore-time made his namesake. 7 He said: "O my Lord! How shall I have a son, when my wife is barren and I have grown quite decrepit from old age?" 8 Answered [the angel]: "Thus it is; [but] thy Sustainer says, 'This is easy for Me - even as I have created thee aforetime out of nothing'". 9 Zachariah asked, " Lord, show me evidence (if this is a heavenly news)." The Lord said, "The evidence for it is that you must not speak (to any mortal) though you are in good health for three nights (and days)." 10 Then he came out from the Sanctuary to his nation, and gestured to them to exalt (their Lord) at the dawn and at the evening. 11 (We said:) "O John, hold fast to the Book;" and We gave him wisdom right from boyhood, 12 and tenderness [of heart] and purity. He was pious, 13 and cherishing his parents, not arrogant, rebellious. 14 So peace on him the day he was born, the day he will die, and the day that he will be raised from the dead. 15
