Mary (Maryam)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Kaf. Ha. Ya. 'Ayn. Sad. 1 Mention of the mercy of thy Lord to His bondman Zakariyya. 2 Behold! he cried to his Lord in secret, 3 Saying: My Lord! Lo! the bones of me wax feeble and my head is shining with grey hair, and I have never been unblest in prayer to Thee, my Lord. 4 "Now I fear (what) my relatives (and colleagues) (will do) after me: but my wife is barren: so give me an heir as from Thyself,- 5 “He being my successor and the heir of the Descendants of Yaqub (Jacob); and my Lord, make him a cherished* one.” (* Make him a Prophet among the Descendants of Israel.) 6 “O Zakaria! We give you the glad tidings of a son whose name is Yahya (John) – before him, We have not created anyone of this name.” 7 He said: "My Lord! How can I have a boy when my wife is barren and I have reached an extremely old age?" 8 [An angel] said, "Thus [it will be]; your Lord says, 'It is easy for Me, for I created you before, while you were nothing.' " 9 He said: my Lord appoint for me a sign. Allah said: thy sign is that thou shalt not speak unto mankind for three nights, while sound. 10 So he came out to his people from the prayer chamber and signaled to them to exalt [Allah] in the morning and afternoon. 11 To John We said, "Hold fast the Book," and while he was still a child, We bestowed upon him wisdom, 12 And tenderness from Us and purity, and he was one who guarded (against evil), 13 And kind to his parents, neither arrogant nor disobedient. 14 Peace be upon him on the day he was born and the day he dies, and on him the day when he is raised up alive. 15
