Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Kaf. Ha. Ya. A'in. Sad. 1 A mention of the mercy of your Lord to His servant Zakariya. 2 When he called to his Lord inwardly, 3 He submitted, “O my Lord – my bones have become weak and old age shines forth from my head, and O my Lord, I have never been disappointed in my prayer to you.” 4 Indeed, I fear my kinsmen who will succeed me, for my wife is barren. Grant me a kinsman 5 one that might be my heir and the heir of the house of Jacob; and make him, Lord, one that will be pleasing to You. 6 O Zakariyya! verily We give thee the glad tidings of a boy: his name shall be Yahya; We have not afore-time made his namesake. 7 He said, "My Lord, how will I have a boy when my wife has been barren and I have reached extreme old age?" 8 He answered: "So shall it be." Your Lord says: "It is easy for Me," and then added: "For beyond doubt, I created you earlier when you were nothing." 9 [Zachariah] prayed: "O my Sustainer! Appoint a sign for me!" Said [the angel]: "Thy sign shall be that for full three nights [and days] thou wilt not speak unto men". 10 Then Zachariah came forth from the shrine to his people and told them by signs to glorify the Lord morning and evening. 11 "O John! Hold the Book with all your strength." We had bestowed wisdom upon him while he was still a child; 12 and tenderness from Us and purity, and he was cautious; 13 honoring his parents, being neither arrogant nor rebellious. 14 And Peace be unto him the day he was born and the day he dieth and the day he will be raised up alive. 15
