Mary (Maryam)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Kaf. Ha. Ya. 'Ain. Sad. 1 AN ACCOUNT of the grace which thy Sustainer bestowed upon His servant Zachariah: 2 When he called out his Lord (Allah) a call in secret, 3 Saying: "My Lord! Indeed my bones have grown feeble, and grey hair has spread on my head, And I have never been unblest in my invocation to You, O my Lord! 4 "And Verily! I fear my relatives after me, since my wife is barren. So give me from Yourself an heir, 5 "Who shall inherit me, and inherit (also) the posterity of Ya'qub (Jacob) (inheritance of the religious knowledge and Prophethood, not the wealth, etc.). And make him, my Lord, one with whom You are Well-pleased!". 6 "Zachariah, We bring you good news of a son whose name shall be John. We have not given such a name to anyone before." 7 He said: O my Lord! in what wise shall there be for me a boy, whereas my wife hath been barren, and surely have reached an age of extreme degree? 8 Said He, 'So it shall be; thy Lord says, "Easy is that for Me, seeing that I created thee aforetime, when thou wast nothing."' 9 He said, 'Lord, appoint to me some sign.' Said He, 'Thy sign is that thou shall not speak to men, though being without fault, three nights.' 10 So Zakariya came out to his people from him chamber: He told them by signs to celebrate Allah's praises in the morning and in the evening. 11 (It was said to his son): "O Yahya (John)! Hold fast the Scripture [the Taurat (Torah)]." And We gave him wisdom while yet a child. 12 And affection from Us and purity, and he was fearing of Allah 13 And dutiful to his parents, and he was not insolent, disobedient. 14 Hence, [God's] peace was upon him on the day when he was born, and on the day of his death, and will be [upon him] on the day when he shall be raised to life [again]. 15
