Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Kaf, Ha, Ya, 'Ayn, Sad. 1 This is the story of the blessing of your Lord to His servant Zachariah. 2 When he called upon his Lord in a low voice, 3 He submitted, “O my Lord – my bones have become weak and old age shines forth from my head, and O my Lord, I have never been disappointed in my prayer to you.” 4 now I fear my kinsmen when I am gone. [I have no hope of their continuing my mission] for my wife is barren, so grant me a successor from Yourself, 5 Inheriting me and inheriting the Children of Ya'qub; and make him, my Lord, acceptable! 6 "O Zachariah," (it was) said, "We give you good news of a son by name of John.' To none have We attributed the name before." 7 He submitted, “My Lord – how can I have a son whereas my wife is barren and I have reached infirmity due to old age?” 8 He said, "It will be so! Your Lord says, 'It is easy for Me for I created you when you were nothing before.'" 9 He said, 'Lord, appoint to me some sign.' Said He, 'Thy sign is that thou shall not speak to men, though being without fault, three nights.' 10 So he came forth unto his people from the Sanctuary, then he made signal to them, 'Give you glory at dawn and evening.' 11 (And it was said unto his son): O John! Hold fast the Scripture. And we gave him wisdom when a child, 12 And tenderness from Our presence and purity, and he was God-fearing. 13 And was good to his parents and not forceful, nor disobedient. 14 And peace be upon him the day he was born and the day he dies and the day he is raised alive. 15
