Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
KaafHaYa'aeenSaad. 1 This is an account of your Lord's mercy bestowed upon His servant Zachariah, 2 When he called out his Lord (Allah) a call in secret, 3 He said: My Lord! surely my bones are weakened and my head flares with hoariness, and, my Lord! I have never been unsuccessful in my prayer to Thee: 4 Indeed, I fear my kinsmen who will succeed me, for my wife is barren. Grant me a kinsman 5 “He being my successor and the heir of the Descendants of Yaqub (Jacob); and my Lord, make him a cherished* one.” (* Make him a Prophet among the Descendants of Israel.) 6 “O Zakaria! We give you the glad tidings of a son whose name is Yahya (John) – before him, We have not created anyone of this name.” 7 He said: "My Lord! How can I have a boy when my wife is barren and I have reached an extremely old age?" 8 He said, "It will be so! Your Lord says, 'It is easy for Me for I created you when you were nothing before.'" 9 He said: My Lord! give me a sign. He said: Your sign is that you will not be able to speak to the people three nights while in sound health. 10 Then he came out from the Sanctuary to his nation, and gestured to them to exalt (their Lord) at the dawn and at the evening. 11 To John We said, "Hold fast the Book," and while he was still a child, We bestowed upon him wisdom, 12 And piety (for all creatures) as from Us, and purity: He was devout, 13 And dutiful to his parents, and he was not a disobedient tyrant. 14 And peace be upon him the day he was born and the day he dies and the day he is raised alive. 15
