Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Kaf-Ha-Ya-A’in-Sad. (* Alphabets of the Arabic language – Allah and to whomever He reveals know their precise meanings.) 1 A mention of the Mercy of your Lord to his worshiper Zachariah, 2 when he called upon his Lord in low tones, saying, 3 Saying: "My Lord! Indeed my bones have grown feeble, and grey hair has spread on my head, And I have never been unblest in my invocation to You, O my Lord! 4 Indeed, I fear my kinsmen who will succeed me, for my wife is barren. Grant me a kinsman 5 one that might be my heir and the heir of the house of Jacob; and make him, Lord, one that will be pleasing to You. 6 [Thereupon the angels called out unto him: "O Zachariah! We bring thee the glad tiding of [the birth of] a son whose name shall be John. [And God says,] "Never have We given this name to anyone before him." 7 He said, "My Lord, how will I have a boy when my wife has been barren and I have reached extreme old age?" 8 (The angel) answered: "Thus will it be. Your Lord said: 'This is easy for Me; for when I brought you into being you were nothing.' 9 He said: "O Lord, give me a token." "Though sound," He answered, "you will not talk to any one for three nights running." 10 Then he came forth to his people from the sanctuary, and he beckoned unto them. hallow your Lord morning and evening. 11 (And it was said unto his son): O John! Hold fast the Scripture. And we gave him wisdom when a child, 12 And piety (for all creatures) as from Us, and purity: He was devout, 13 kind to his parents, not arrogant or a rebellious person. 14 Peace be upon him the day he was born, and the day he will die, and the day he will be raised up alive. 15
