Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Kaf, Ha, Ya, 'Ayn, Sad. 1 A mention of the mercy of thy Lord unto His servant Zachariah. 2 When he softly prayed to his Lord. 3 Saying: My Lord! Lo! the bones of me wax feeble and my head is shining with grey hair, and I have never been unblest in prayer to Thee, my Lord. 4 I fear evil from my kinsmen after I am gone; and my wife is barren, so grant me an heir out of Your special grace, 5 Who will be heir to me, and heir to the house of Jacob; and make him obedient to You, O Lord." 6 [He was told], "O Zechariah, indeed We give you good tidings of a boy whose name will be John. We have not assigned to any before [this] name." 7 "My Lord!" [said Zachariah], "How shall I have a son when my wife is barren and I have reached such extreme old age?" 8 (The angel) answered: "Thus will it be. Your Lord said: 'This is easy for Me; for when I brought you into being you were nothing.' 9 He (Zachariah) said: 'Lord, make for me a sign' He replied: 'Your sign is that you shall not speak to people for three nights being without fault' 10 Then he came forth to his people from the sanctuary, and he beckoned unto them. hallow your Lord morning and evening. 11 (We said): 'O John, hold fast to the Book', and We bestowed on him judgment while yet a child 12 We gave him compassion and purity. He was a pious human being, 13 And kind to his parents, and he was not overbearing or rebellious. 14 Peace be upon him the day he was born, and the day he will die, and the day he will be raised up alive. 15
