Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Kaf. Ha. Ya. A'in. Sad. 1 A mention of the mercy of your Lord to His servant Zakariya. 2 when he called upon his Lord in secret, 3 Saying: "My Lord! Indeed my bones have grown feeble, and grey hair has spread on my head, And I have never been unblest in my invocation to You, O my Lord! 4 I am afraid of what my kinsmen will do after (my death) and my wife is barren. Lord, grant me a son 5 who will be my heir as well as an heir [to the dignity] of the House of Jacob; and make him, O my Sustainer, well-pleasing to Thee!" 6 [He was told], "O Zechariah, indeed We give you good tidings of a boy whose name will be John. We have not assigned to any before [this] name." 7 He said: O my Lord! when shall I have a son, and my wife is barren, and I myself have reached indeed the extreme degree of old age? 8 [An angel] said, "Thus [it will be]; your Lord says, 'It is easy for Me, for I created you before, while you were nothing.' " 9 Zachariah asked, " Lord, show me evidence (if this is a heavenly news)." The Lord said, "The evidence for it is that you must not speak (to any mortal) though you are in good health for three nights (and days)." 10 Thereupon Zechariah came out from the sanctuary and directed his people by gestures to extol His glory by day and by night. 11 (It was said to his son): "O Yahya (John)! Hold fast the Scripture [the Taurat (Torah)]." And We gave him wisdom while yet a child. 12 and a tenderness from Us, and purity; and he was godfearing, 13 And was good to his parents and not forceful, nor disobedient. 14 So Peace on him the day he was born, the day that he dies, and the day that he will be raised up to life (again)! 15
