In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
KaafHaYa'aeenSaad. 1 A mention of the mercy of thy Lord unto His servant Zachariah. 2 when he cried to his Lord in secret. 3 "Lord, my bones have weakened and my head has turned hoary with age, but never, Lord, have I been disappointed in my prayer to you: 4 now I fear my kinsmen when I am gone. [I have no hope of their continuing my mission] for my wife is barren, so grant me a successor from Yourself, 5 "(One that) will (truly) represent me, and represent the posterity of Jacob; and make him, O my Lord! one with whom Thou art well-pleased!" 6 O Zakariya! surely We give you good news of a boy whose name shall be Yahya: We have not made before anyone his equal. 7 He said: "My Lord! How can I have a boy when my wife is barren and I have reached an extremely old age?" 8 He said, "It will be so! Your Lord says, 'It is easy for Me for I created you when you were nothing before.'" 9 Zechariah said: "Lord, grant me a Sign." Said He: "Your Sign is that you shall not be able to speak to people for three nights, though you will be otherwise sound." 10 Then Zachariah came forth from the shrine to his people and told them by signs to glorify the Lord morning and evening. 11 'O John, take the Book forcefully'; and We gave him judgment, yet a little child, 12 And piety (for all creatures) as from Us, and purity: He was devout, 13 And was good to his parents and not forceful, nor disobedient. 14 And peace be upon him the day he was born and the day he dies and the day he is raised alive. 15
