Mary (Maryam)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Kaf, Ha, Ya, 'Ayn, Sad. 1 (This is) a mention of the mercy of your Lord to His slave Zakariya (Zachariah). 2 Behold! he cried to his Lord in secret, 3 And said: "O my Lord, my bones decay, my head is white and hoary, yet in calling You, O Lord, I have never been deprived. 4 And surely I fear my cousins after me, and my wife is barren, therefore grant me from Thyself an heir, 5 Who will inherit me and inherit from the family of Jacob. And make him, my Lord, pleasing [to You]." 6 "O Zachariah," (it was) said, "We give you good news of a son by name of John.' To none have We attributed the name before." 7 [Zachariah] exclaimed: "O my Sustainer! How can I have a son when my wife has always been barren and I have become utterly infirm through old age?" 8 [An angel] said, "Thus [it will be]; your Lord says, 'It is easy for Me, for I created you before, while you were nothing.' " 9 [Zachariah] prayed: "O my Sustainer! Appoint a sign for me!" Said [the angel]: "Thy sign shall be that for full three nights [and days] thou wilt not speak unto men". 10 So he came forth unto his people from the Sanctuary, then he made signal to them, 'Give you glory at dawn and evening.' 11 "O John! Hold the Book with all your strength." We had bestowed wisdom upon him while he was still a child; 12 And affection from Us and purity, and he was fearing of Allah 13 And duteous unto his parents, and was not high-handed rebel. 14 So Peace on him the day he was born the day that he dies and the day that he will be raised up to life (again)! 15
