AND CALL to mind, through this divine writ, Abraham. Behold, he was a man of truth, [already] a prophet 41 Remember, when he said to his father: "O my father, why do you worship that which can neither hear nor see nor even profit you the least? 42 "O my father! to me hath come knowledge which hath not reached thee: so follow me: I will guide thee to a way that is even and straight. 43 O my father! serve not the Shaitan, surely the Shaitan is disobedient to the Beneficent Allah: 44 O my father! I dread lest a chastisement from the Most Gracious befall thee, and then thou wilt become [aware of having been] close unto Satan!" 45 (The father) replied: "Dost thou hate my gods, O Abraham? If thou forbear not, I will indeed stone thee: Now get away from me for a good long while!" 46 [Abraham] said, "Peace will be upon you. I will ask forgiveness for you of my Lord. Indeed, He is ever gracious to me. 47 I shall stay away from you and what you worship instead of God. I worship my Lord and hope that my prayers will not be ignored." 48 So when he had separated from them and what they worshipped other than Allah, We bestowed him Ishaq and Yaqub; and We made each of them a Herald of the Hidden. 49 and We bestowed on them Our mercy, and granted them a truly lofty renown. 50
