And mention in the Book [the story of] Abraham. Indeed, he was a man of truth and a prophet. 41 He said to his father, "Why do you worship something that can neither hear nor see nor benefit you in any way? 42 O my father! Lo! there hath come unto me of knowledge that which came not unto thee. So follow me, and I will lead thee on a right path. 43 "O my father! serve not Satan: for Satan is a rebel against (Allah) Most Gracious. 44 Father, I am afraid that the Beneficent God's torment will strike you and you will become a friend of satan." 45 (The father) replied: "Dost thou hate my gods, O Abraham? If thou forbear not, I will indeed stone thee: Now get away from me for a good long while!" 46 [Abraham] said, "Peace will be upon you. I will ask forgiveness for you of my Lord. Indeed, He is ever gracious to me. 47 And I will leave you and those you invoke other than Allah and will invoke my Lord. I expect that I will not be in invocation to my Lord unhappy." 48 And after he had withdrawn from them and from all that they were worshipping instead of God, We bestowed upon him Isaac and Jacob, and made each of them a prophet; 49 We granted them Our blessing and high renown. 50
