We sent an inspiration to Moses: "Travel by night with My servants, and strike a dry path for them through the sea, without fear of being overtaken (by Pharaoh) and without (any other) fear." 77 And Pharaoh pursued them with his hosts: and they were overwhelmed by the sea which was destined to overwhelm them. 78 Pharaoh led his people astray; he did not guide them aright. 79 O children of Israel, We delivered you from your enemy, and made a covenant with you on the right side of the Mount, and sent down for you manna and quails, 80 (Saying) eat of the Taiyibat (good lawful things) wherewith We have provided you, and commit no oppression therein, lest My Anger should justly descend on you. And he on whom My Anger descends, he is indeed perished. 81 And verily I am the Most Forgiving unto whomsoever repenteth and believeth and worketh righteously, and thereafter letteth himself remain guided. 82 ۞ 'What has sped thee far from thy people, Moses?' 83 He submitted, “They are here, just behind me – and O my Lord, I hastened towards You, in order to please You.” 84 But God said, "We have tested your people in your absence. The Samiri has led them astray." 85 With great anger and sorrow, Moses returned to his nation. 'My nation' he said, 'did your Lord not make you a fine promise? Did the time of the covenant seem long to you? Or did you desire that the anger of your Lord should fall upon you so that you failed in your coming to my appointment' 86 They said, "We did not break our promise to you by our will, but we were made to carry burdens from the ornaments of the people [of Pharaoh], so we threw them [into the fire], and thus did the Samiri throw." 87 and made a calf for them, a figure that lowed. "This," they said, "is your god and the god of Moses but whom he has forgotten." 88 Did they not see that it could not return to them any speech and that it did not possess for them any harm or benefit? 89
