And certainly We revealed to Musa, saying: Travel by night with My servants, then make for them a dry path in the sea, not fearing to be overtaken, nor being afraid. 77 Pharaoh pursued them with his hosts, but they were submerged by the sea, which was destined to overwhelm them. 78 For Pharaoh had led his people astray and did not guide them. 79 Children of Israel! We saved you from your enemies and made a covenant with you on the right side of the Mountain. We sent down manna and quails. 80 'Eat of the good things wherewith We have provided you; but exceed not therein, or My anger shall alight on you; and on whomsoever My anger alights, that man is hurled to ruin. 81 Yet withal, behold, I forgive all sins unto any who repents and attains to faith and does righteous deeds, and thereafter keeps to the right path. 82 ۞ "But, O Moses, what has made you come in haste from your people?" 83 He said, "They are close upon my tracks, and I hastened to You, my Lord, that You be pleased." 84 The Lord said, "We tested your people after you left them and the Samiri made them go astray." 85 Then Musa (Moses) returned to his people in a state of anger and sorrow. He said: "O my people! Did not your Lord promise you a fair promise? Did then the promise seem to you long in coming? Or did you desire that wrath should descend from your Lord on you, so you broke your promise to me (i.e. disbelieving in Allah and worshipping the calf)?" 86 They said: We broke not tryst with thee of our own will, but we were laden with burdens of ornaments of the folk, then cast them (in the fire), for thus As-Samiri proposed. 87 Then he produced for them a calf, of saffron hue, which gave forth a lowing sound. And they cried: This is your god and the god of Moses, but he hath forgotten. 88 Observed they not that it returned not unto them a word, and owned not for them hurt or profit? 89
