And Aaron had already told them before [the return of Moses], "O my people, you are only being tested by it, and indeed, your Lord is the Most Merciful, so follow me and obey my order." 90 They said, “We will continue to squat* before it, till Moosa returns to us.” (* Continue worshipping it.) 91 (Moses) said: "O Aaron! what kept thee back, when thou sawest them going wrong, 92 from following after me, did you disobey my order' 93 Aaron answered: "Son of my mother! Do not seize me with my beard, nor by (the hair of) my head. I feared that on returning you might say: 'You sowed discord among the Children of Israel, and did not pay heed to my words.'" 94 Musa said: what was thy object, O Samiri? 95 He said: l saw that which they saw not; so I seized a handful from the footstep of the messenger, and then cast it; thus my soul embellished the affair to me. 96 He said: Begone then, surely for you it will be in this life to say, Touch (me) not; and surely there is a threat for you, which shall not be made to fail to you, and look at your god to whose worship you kept (so long); we will certainly burn it, then we will certainly scatter it a (wide) scattering in the sea. 97 But the god of you all is the One Allah: there is no god but He: all things He comprehends in His knowledge. 98 Thus do We relate to you (some) of the news of what has gone before; and indeed We have given to you a Reminder from Ourselves. 99 He who turns away from it will surely bear a heavy burden on the Day of Resurrection, 100 Abiding under it - an evil burden for them on the Day of Resurrection, 101 On the day when the Trumpet is blown and We shall assemble the guilty on that day, blue -eyed. 102 Whispering to one another: "You have tarried but ten days." 103 We know well what they will utter, whereas the wisest among them will say, “You have stayed just for a day.” 104
