And Aaron indeed had told them beforehand: O my people! Ye are but being seduced therewith, for lo! your Lord is the Beneficent, so follow me and obey my order. 90 They said "So long as Moses does not come back we are not going to give it up, and we will remain devoted to it." 91 Moses said to Aaron, "What prevented you, when you saw that they had gone astray, 92 From following me? Then have you disobeyed my order?" 93 Answered [Aaron]: "O my mother's son! Seize me not by my beard, nor by my head! Behold, I was afraid lest [on thy return] thou say, 'Thou hast caused a split among the children of Israel, and hast paid no heed to my bidding!" 94 Musa said: what was thy object, O Samiri? 95 He said: "I saw what they did not see. I picked up a handful of dust from the messenger's tracks and threw it in, for the idea seemed attractive to me." 96 Musa (Moses) said: "Then go away! And verily, your (punishment) in this life will be that you will say: "Touch me not (i.e. you will live alone exiled away from mankind); and verily (for a future torment), you have a promise that will not fail. And look at your ilah (god), to which you have been devoted. We will certainly burn it, and scatter its particles in the sea." 97 Your God is only One, Allah. There is no god, except He, alone. His knowledge encompasses all things. 98 And so We narrate to you the stories of the past, and We have given you a remembrance from Us. 99 Whoever disregards (the Quran) will be heavily burdened with sin on the Day of Judgment 100 and live in it for ever; how evil will that burden be for them on the Day of Resurrection. 101 The day the trumpet blast is sounded We shall raise the sinners blind, 102 In whispers will they speak to each other (saying): "You stayed not longer than ten (days)." 103 We know very well what they will say, when the best among them in knowledge and wisdom will say: "You stayed no longer than a day!" 104
