Aaron had already, before this said to them: "O my people! ye are being tested in this: for verily your Lord is (Allah) Most Gracious; so follow me and obey my command." 90 They said, “We will continue to squat* before it, till Moosa returns to us.” (* Continue worshipping it.) 91 Moses said to Aaron, "What prevented you, when you saw that they had gone astray, 92 That thou followedst me not? Hast thou then disobeyed my order? 93 (Aaron) replied: "O son of my mother! Seize (me) not by my beard nor by (the hair of) my head! Truly I feared lest thou shouldst say, 'Thou has caused a division among the children of Israel, and thou didst not respect my word!'" 94 Moses asked, "Samiri, what were your motives?" 95 He said, "I saw what they did not see, so I took a handful [of dust] from the track of the messenger and threw it, and thus did my soul entice me." 96 (Moses) said: "Go hence! All your life you are (cursed) to say: 'Do not touch me; and a threat hangs over you which you will not be able to escape. Look at your god to whom you are so attached: We shall verily burn it, and disperse its ashes into the sea. 97 Your God is none else than Allah, beside Whom there is no god. His knowledge embraces everything." 98 Thus, [O Muhammad], We relate to you from the news of what has preceded. And We have certainly given you from Us the Qur'an. 99 Whosoever turnoth away therefrom - verily they shall bear on the Day of Judgment a burthen, 100 And will live for ever under it. How evil the burden they will carry on the Day of Doom! 101 On the day when the trumpet will be sounded We will raise the criminals from their graves and their eyes will be turned blue and blind. 102 They will slowly talk to each other and say, "Our life on earth was as short as ten days". 103 We know best what they say. The moderate ones among them will say, "You did not live on earth for more than a day." 104
