And Harun (Aaron) indeed had said to them beforehand: "O my people! You are being tried in this, and verily, your Lord is (Allah) the Most Beneficent, so follow me and obey my order." 90 They had said: "We will not abandon this cult, but we will devote ourselves to it until Moses returns to us." 91 [And now that he had come back, Moses] said: "O Aaron! What has prevented thee, when thou didst see that they had gone astray, 92 from following me? Why did you disobey my command?" 93 'Son of my mother' he replied, 'Do not seize my beard nor my head. I was afraid that you might say: "You have divided the Children of Israel and did not uphold my word." 94 (Moses) said: "What then is thy case, O Samiri?" 95 He replied: "I saw what they saw not: so I took a handful (of dust) from the footprint of the Messenger, and threw it (into the calf): thus did my soul suggest to me." 96 Said [Moses]; "Begone, then! And behold, it shall be thy lot to say throughout [thy] life, 'Touch me not! But, verily, [in the life to come] thou shalt be faced with a destiny from which there will be no escape! And [now] look at this deity of thine to whose worship thou hast become so devoted: we shall most certainly burn it, and then scatter [whatever remains of] it far and wide over the sea! 97 “Your God is only Allah – other than for Whom there is no worship; His knowledge encompasses all things.” 98 (O Muhammad), thus do We recount to you the events of the past, and We have bestowed upon you from Ourself an admonition. 99 Whoever turns away from it - then indeed, he will bear on the Day of Resurrection a burden, 100 which they shall bear forever. It will be a grievous burden for them on the Day of Judgement, 101 the Day when the Trumpet shall be sounded and We shall muster the sinners, their eyes turned blue with terror. 102 and they shall murmur among themselves: 'You have stayed away but ten (days and nights)' 103 We are most knowing of what they say when the best of them in manner will say, "You remained not but one day." 104
