The Prophets (Al-Anbyaa')
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ Nigh unto men has drawn their reckoning, while they in heedlessness are yet turning away; 1 Never cometh there unto them a new reminder from their Lord but they listen to it while they play, 2 With hearts preoccupied. And they confer in secret. The wrong-doers say: Is this other than a mortal like you? Will ye then succumb to magic when ye see (it)? 3 Say, "My Lord knows every word spoken in the heavens and on the earth. He is All Hearing, All Knowing." 4 Nay! say they: Medleys of dreams; nay! he has forged it; nay! he is a poet; so let him bring to us a sign as the former (prophets) were sent (with). 5 Of the villages We destroyed, there was not one that believed. What, will they not believe? 6 Never did We send a message before you but through a man, whom We inspired. If you do not know, then ask the keepers of the oracles of God. 7 We gave them not bodies that would not eat food, nor were they immortals. 8 We then fulfilled the promise to them, therefore rescued them and whomever We willed, and destroyed the transgressors. 9 We have sent down to you a Book which has a reminder for you. Do you not understand? 10
