The Prophets (Al-Anbyaa')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ CLOSER DRAWS unto men their reckoning: and yet they remain stubbornly heedless [of its approach]. 1 Whenever a new revelation comes to them from their Lord, they listen to it in a playful manner, 2 their hearts are distracted and forgetful. The wrongdoers confer together secretly, saying, "Is not this man a mortal like you? Will you succumb to magic with your eyes open?" 3 The Prophet said: my Lord knoweth the word in the heavens and the earth, and He is the Hearer, the Knower. 4 They say: "Nay, these are confused dreams; nay, he has forged it; nay, he is a poet. So let him bring us a sign, even as the Messengers of the past were sent with signs." 5 Not one township that We destroyed before them believed. Would they, then, believe? 6 We never sent (anyone) before you except men to whom We revealed to them. 'Ask the people of the Remembrance if you do not know' 7 Nor did We make them bodies that ate no food, nor were they immortal. 8 Then we fulfilled the promise unto them. So we delivered them and whom We would, and We destroyed the prodigals. 9 Now We have revealed unto you a Scripture wherein is your Reminder. Have ye then no sense? 10
