۞ And We verily gave Abraham of old his proper course, and We were Aware of him, 51 When he said to his father and his people, “What are these idols before whom you squat (worshipping)?” 52 They said:"We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said: 'Truly, you and your fathers are in clear error' 54 They said: 'Is it the truth you have brought us, or are you one of those that play' 55 He said: "In fact it was your Lord, the Lord of the heavens and the earth, who created them; and I bear witness to this. 56 And by Allah I shall surely devise a plot against your idols after ye turned away backward. 57 Then he broke them all into pieces, sparing only the supreme one among them that they may possibly return to him. 58 (When the people came to the temple and saw the broken idols) they asked each other, "Who has done this to our gods? He certainly is an unjust person". 59 Some of them said: "We heard a youth called Abraham speak (ill) of them." 60 [The others] said: "Then bring him before the peoples eyes, so that they might bear witness [against him]!" 61 They said, "Art thou the one that did this with our gods, O Abraham?" 62 He said, "Rather, this - the largest of them - did it, so ask them, if they should [be able to] speak." 63 So they turned to themselves and said, "Surely ye are the ones in the wrong!" 64 And they were utterly confounded, and they said: Well thou knowest that these speak not. 65 He said, "Then do you worship instead of Allah that which does not benefit you at all or harm you? 66 Woe to you for what you worship instead of God. Have you no understanding?" 67 They said: "Burn him, and save your gods, if you are men of action." 68 We said, “O fire, become cool and peaceful upon Ibrahim.” 69 They sought to outwit him, but We made them the worst of losers. 70 And We rescued him and Lut towards the land which We have blessed for the entire world. 71 And We bestowed him Ishaq, and Yaqub the grandson; and We made all of them worthy of Our proximity. 72 And We made them leaders who guide by Our command, and We sent them the divine revelation to do good deeds and to keep the prayer established and to give charity; and they used to worship Us. 73 And (remember) Lout (Lot), We gave him Hukman (right judgement of the affairs and Prophethood) and (religious) knowledge, and We saved him from the town (folk) who practised Al-Khaba'ith (evil, wicked and filthy deeds, etc.). Verily, they were a people given to evil, and were Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient, to Allah). 74 And We caused him to enter into Our mercy; verily he was of the righteous. 75
