۞ We had earlier given Abraham true direction, for We knew him well. 51 Behold! he said to his father and his people, "What are these images, to which ye are (so assiduously) devoted?" 52 They replied: 'We found our fathers worshipping them' 53 He said, "Indeed ye have been in manifest error - ye and your fathers." 54 They said: "Are you expressing your true ideas before us or are you jesting?" 55 He said: Aye! your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth Who created them, and as to that I am of the witnesses. 56 And by Allah I shall surely devise a plot against your idols after ye turned away backward. 57 So he broke them to pieces, (all) but the biggest of them, that they might turn (and address themselves) to it. 58 They said, "Who has done this to our gods? Indeed, he is of the wrongdoers." 59 They said, "We heard a young man mention them who is called Abraham." 60 They said, “Therefore bring him in front of the people, perhaps they may testify.” 61 [And when he came.] they asked: "Hast thou done this to our gods, O Abraham?" 62 [Ibrahim (Abraham)] said: "Nay, this one, the biggest of them (idols) did it. Ask them, if they can speak!" 63 Thereupon they turned to their (inner) selves and said (to themselves): "Surely it is you who are the wrong-doers." 64 Thereafter they were made to turn over upon their heads, saying, assuredly thou knowest that they speak not. 65 He said, 'What, and do you serve, apart from God, that which profits you nothing; neither hurts you? 66 "Fie upon you, and upon that which you worship besides Allah! Have you then no sense?" 67 They said: Burn him and help your gods, if you are going to do (anything). 68 We said: O fire, be coolness and peace for Abraham, 69 And they wanted to harm him, but We made them the worst losers. 70 And We delivered him and Lut to the land wherein We had placed Our blessings for the worlds. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac and [Isaac's son] Jacob as an additional gift and caused all of them to be righteous men, 72 and appointed them to be leaders guiding by Our command, and We revealed to them the doing of good deeds, and to perform the prayer, and to pay the alms, and Us they served. 73 And Lot -- to him We gave judgment and knowledge; and we delivered him from the city that had been doing deeds of corruption; they were an evil people, truly ungodly; 74 And We brought him in unto Our mercy. Lo! he was of the righteous. 75
