۞ Surely We had bestowed wisdom upon Abraham even earlier, and We knew him well. 51 When he said to his father and his people, “What are these idols before whom you squat (worshipping)?” 52 They said, "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said, “Indeed you all – you and your forefathers – were in open error.” 54 They said: Have you brought to us the truth, or are you one of the triflers? 55 He said: Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who created them; and I am of those who testify unto that. 56 I swear by God I will do something to your idols when you have turned your backs and gone." 57 So he broke them into pieces, except the chief of them, that haply they may return to it. 58 They said: Who has done this to our gods? Most surely he is one of the unjust. 59 Said some [of them]: "We heard a youth speak of these [gods with scorn]: he is called Abraham." 60 They said: "Then bring him before the eyes of the people, that they may testify." 61 They said: Is it thou who hast done this to our gods, O Abraham? 62 He answered, "Rather this biggest one of them did it. Ask them, if they can speak." 63 Then they turned to one another and said, "It is you yourselves who are in the wrong," 64 Then their minds were turned upside down, and they said: "You know well that they do not speak." 65 He said: Worship ye then instead of Allah that which cannot profit you at all, nor harm you? 66 Shame on you and on that you worship other than Allah! Have you no understanding' 67 They said, "Burn him and support your gods - if you are to act." 68 We said: O fire, be coolness and peace for Abraham, 69 Then they sought a stratagem against him: but We made them the ones that lost most! 70 And We rescued him and Lout (Lot) to the land which We have blessed for the 'Alamin (mankind and jinns). 71 And We bestowed on him Isaac and, as an additional gift, (a grandson), Jacob, and We made righteous men of every one (of them). 72 And We made them leaders, guiding (mankind) by Our Command, and We inspired in them the doing of good deeds, performing Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), and the giving of Zakat and of Us (Alone) they were worshippers. 73 To Lot, We gave judgment and knowledge and saved him from the village that had been committing corrupt deeds; for they were an evil nation and were debauched. 74 And We admitted him to Our Mercy: for he was one of the Righteous. 75
