۞ To Abraham We gave the right guidance and We knew him very well. 51 When he said to his father and his people, "What are these statues to which you are devoted?" 52 They said, 'We found our fathers serving them.' 53 He said: "Certainly you and your fathers have all been in manifest error." 54 They said, "Have you brought us the truth or are you jesting?" 55 He said, 'Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth who originated them, and I am one of those that bear witness thereunto. 56 "And by Allah, I shall plot a plan (to destroy) your idols after you have gone away and turned your backs." 57 So he broke them into pieces, except the chief of them, that haply they may return to it. 58 They said, "Who has done this to our gods? He must indeed be some man of impiety!" 59 'We have heard a young man called Abraham mention them' they replied. 60 They said, "Then bring him here in the sight of all the people, so that they may act as witnesses." 61 [And when he came.] they asked: "Hast thou done this to our gods, O Abraham?" 62 He said: Surely (some doer) has done it; the chief of them is this, therefore ask them, if they can speak. 63 So they returned to [blaming] themselves and said [to each other], "Indeed, you are the wrongdoers." 64 Then crestfallen (they confessed): "Truly, as you know, they cannot speak." 65 He said, “What! You worship, instead of Allah, one that neither benefits you nor harms you?” 66 Fie on you and those you worship besides God! Will you not understand?" 67 They said: "Burn him, and come to the support of your gods, if you are going to do anything." 68 We said: O fire, be coolness and peace for Abraham, 69 and whereas they sought to do evil unto him, We caused them to suffer the greatest loss: 70 and We saved him and Lot and brought him to the land upon which We had bestowed Our blessings for all the people of the world. 71 And We gave him Isaac and Jacob in superfluity, and every one made We righteous 72 And We made them chiefs who guide by Our command, and We inspired in them the doing of good deeds and the right establishment of worship and the giving of alms, and they were worshippers of Us (alone). 73 To Lot, We gave judgment and knowledge and saved him from the village that had been committing corrupt deeds; for they were an evil nation and were debauched. 74 We admitted him to Our Mercy, he was among the righteous. 75
