۞ And certainly We gave to Ibrahim his rectitude before, and We knew him fully well. 51 when he said to his father and his people, 'What are these statues unto which you are cleaving?' 52 They said, “We found our forefathers worshipping them.” 53 He said: 'Truly, you and your fathers are in clear error' 54 They said: Have you brought to us the truth, or are you one of the triflers? 55 He said: "In fact it was your Lord, the Lord of the heavens and the earth, who created them; and I bear witness to this. 56 And by Allah I shall surely devise a plot against your idols after ye turned away backward. 57 Then he broke them all into pieces, sparing only the supreme one among them that they may possibly return to him. 58 They said, "Who has done this to our gods? He must indeed be some man of impiety!" 59 They said: "We heard a youth talk about them. He is called Abraham." 60 The others said: "Bring him, then, before the eyes of the people that they may see (what will be done to him)." 61 They said: art thou the one who hath wrought this unto our gods, O Ibrahim? 62 He said: But this, their chief hath done it. So question them, if they can speak. 63 So they turned towards their own selves and (inwardly) said, “Indeed you yourselves are unjust.” 64 Again they were inverted upon their heads; saying, “You know well that these do not speak.” 65 (So Abraham) said: "Then why do you worship something apart from God that cannot profit you or do you harm? 66 Fie on you and all that ye worship instead of Allah! Have ye then no sense? 67 They said: "Burn him and help your aliha (gods), if you will be doing." 68 We said to the fire, "Be cool and peaceful (with Abraham)". 69 They sought to outwit him, but We made them the worst of losers. 70 for We saved him and Lot, [his brother's son, by guiding them] to the land which We have blessed for all times to come. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac and Jacob as an additional gift, making each of them righteous. 72 And We made them leaders, guiding (men) by Our Command, and We sent them inspiration to do good deeds, to establish regular prayers, and to practise regular charity; and they constantly served Us (and Us only). 73 And We gave Lut the kingdom and knowledge, and We rescued him from the township that committed vile deeds; indeed those evil people were disobedient. 74 And We admitted him to Our Mercy, truly, he was of the righteous. 75
