۞ AND, INDEED, long before [the time of Moses] We vouchsafed unto Abraham his consciousness of what is right; and We were aware of [what moved] him 51 When he said unto his father and his folk: What are these images unto which ye pay devotion? 52 They replied, "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said: Verily ye and your fathers were in plain error. 54 They said: Have you brought to us the truth, or are you one of the triflers? 55 He said, "Your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth. It was He who created them and I testify to this fact". 56 Abraham said to himself, "By God! I will devise a plan against their idols when they are away." 57 He shattered them all, except the biggest among them, that perhaps they may question it. 58 "Who has done this to our deities? He must be a wrongdoer." 59 They said, "We heard a young man mention them who is called Abraham." 60 Their chiefs said, "Bring him before the eyes of the people and let them testify that he has spoken against the idols." 61 They said: art thou the one who hath wrought this unto our gods, O Ibrahim? 62 Said he, “Rather, their chief may have done it; so question them, if they can speak.” 63 So they turned towards their own selves and (inwardly) said, “Indeed you yourselves are unjust.” 64 then they hung their heads, and said, "O Abraham! You know they cannot speak." 65 He said: 'Would you then worship that, instead of Allah, which can neither help nor harm you? 66 Shame on you and on that you worship other than Allah! Have you no understanding' 67 They said: 'Burn him and help your gods, if you are going to do anything' 68 We said to the fire, "Be cool and peaceful (with Abraham)". 69 And they wanted to harm him, but We made them the worst losers. 70 for We saved him and Lot, [his brother's son, by guiding them] to the land which We have blessed for all times to come. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac, and Jacob as a grandson. Each of them We made righteous. 72 and appointed them to be leaders guiding by Our command, and We revealed to them the doing of good deeds, and to perform the prayer, and to pay the alms, and Us they served. 73 AND UNTO Lot, too, We vouchsafed sound judgment and knowledge [of right and wrong,] and saved him from that community which was given to deeds of abomination. [We destroyed those people - for,] verily, they were people lost in evil, depraved 74 And We took him into Our mercy; surely he was of the good. 75
