۞ We had earlier given Abraham true direction, for We knew him well. 51 When he said to his father and his people: "What are these images, to which you are devoted?" 52 They replied, "We found our fathers worshipping them". 53 He said, "Indeed ye have been in manifest error - ye and your fathers." 54 They said, 'What, hast thou come to us with the truth, or art thou one of those that play?' 55 He said: Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who created them; and I am of those who testify unto that. 56 “And, by oath of Allah, I shall seek to harm your idols after you have gone away and turned your backs.” 57 So he broke them to pieces, (all) except the biggest of them, that they might turn to it. 58 They said, “Who has done this to our Gods? He is indeed cruel!” 59 They said, 'We heard a young man making mention of them, and he was called Abraham.' 60 Said they: Then bring him before the eyes of the people, perhaps they may bear witness. 61 'Abraham' they said, 'was it you who did this to our gods' 62 He answered: "Nay, it was this one, the biggest of them, that did it: but ask them [yourselves] - provided they can speak!" 63 Then they turned to themselves and said: Surely you yourselves are the unjust; 64 With their heads cast down they said, "Abraham, you know that idols do not speak. How then can you ask such a question?" 65 He said, 'What, and do you serve, apart from God, that which profits you nothing; neither hurts you? 66 Shame on you and on that you worship other than Allah! Have you no understanding' 67 They exclaimed: "Burn him, and [thereby] succour your gods, if you are going to do [anything]!" 68 We said: O fire! be thou cool and peace unto Ibrahim. 69 They desired to outwit him; so We made them the worse losers, 70 and We saved him and Lot and brought him to the land upon which We had bestowed Our blessings for all the people of the world. 71 We bestowed Isaac and then Jacob on him as an additional boon and We made all of them righteous. 72 We made them leaders who guided people by Our command. We revealed to them the doing of good, observance of prayer and the giving of alms and Us alone did they worship. 73 To Lot We gave wisdom and knowledge and delivered him from the city which practiced abomination. They were indeed a wicked people. 74 And We brought him in unto Our mercy. Lo! he was of the righteous. 75
