۞ And We had certainly given Abraham his sound judgement before, and We were of him well-Knowing 51 Recall, when he said to his father and his people: "What are these images to which you are devoutly clinging?" 52 They replied: "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said: "Certainly you and your fathers have all been in manifest error." 54 They said: Have you brought to us the truth, or are you one of the triflers? 55 'No' he answered, 'your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the Originator of them, and I am among those bearing witness to it. 56 Abraham said to himself, "By God! I will devise a plan against their idols when they are away." 57 So he broke them to pieces, (all) except the biggest of them, that they might turn to it. 58 (When the people came to the temple and saw the broken idols) they asked each other, "Who has done this to our gods? He certainly is an unjust person". 59 Some said, "We heard a young man, called Abraham, talking about them." 60 They said: bring him then before the eyes of the people, haply they may bear witness. 61 They said: art thou the one who hath wrought this unto our gods, O Ibrahim? 62 He answered, "Rather this biggest one of them did it. Ask them, if they can speak." 63 Then they thought and observed: "Surely you are yourselves unjust." 64 But then they reversed their minds: 'You know they do not speak' 65 He said, "Do you, instead of God, worship things that can neither harm nor benefit you?" 66 Fie upon you and that you serve apart from God! Do you not understand?' 67 They said: "Burn him, and save your gods, if you are men of action." 68 [But] We said: O fire! Be thou cool, and [a source of] inner peace for Abraham!" 69 Then they sought a stratagem against him: but We made them the ones that lost most! 70 And We rescued him and Lut towards the land which We have blessed for the entire world. 71 And We gave him Isaac and Jacob in superfluity, and every one made We righteous 72 and made them leaders who would guide [others] in accordance with Our behest: for We inspired them [with a will] to do good works, and to be constant in prayer, and to dispense charity: and Us [alone] did they worship. 73 And (as for) Lut, We gave him wisdom and knowledge, and We delivered him from the town which wrought abominations; surely they were an evil people, transgressors; 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy. Verily he was of the righteous. 75
