۞ Surely We had bestowed wisdom upon Abraham even earlier, and We knew him well. 51 Behold! he said to his father and his people, "What are these images, to which ye are (so assiduously) devoted?" 52 They said: We found our fathers worshipping them. 53 He said, "You were certainly, you and your fathers, in manifest error." 54 They said, "Have you brought us the Truth, or are you one of those who jest?" 55 He said: Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who created them; and I am of those who testify unto that. 56 "And by Allah, I shall plot a plan (to destroy) your idols after you have gone away and turned your backs." 57 So he made them into fragments, except a large one among them, that they might return to it [and question]. 58 They asked (on return): "Who has done this to our gods? He is surely a mischief-monger." 59 Said some [of them]: "We heard a youth speak of these [gods with scorn]: he is called Abraham." 60 They said: "Then bring him before the eyes of the people, that they may testify." 61 [And when he came.] they asked: "Hast thou done this to our gods, O Abraham?" 62 Said he, “Rather, their chief may have done it; so question them, if they can speak.” 63 So they returned to [blaming] themselves and said [to each other], "Indeed, you are the wrongdoers." 64 Then they were utterly put to confusion saying, 'Very well indeed thou knowest these do not speak.' 65 He said, 'What, and do you serve, apart from God, that which profits you nothing; neither hurts you? 66 Fie on you and all that ye worship instead of Allah! Have ye then no sense? 67 They said, “Burn him and help your Gods, if you want to.” 68 But We said, "Fire! Be cool and a means of safety for Abraham." 69 They desired to outwit him; so We made them the worse losers, 70 We saved him and Lot, and brought them to the land which We had blessed for all the worlds. 71 We granted him Isaac and Jacob as a gift and helped both of them to become righteous people. 72 And We made them chiefs who guide by Our command, and We inspired in them the doing of good deeds and the right establishment of worship and the giving of alms, and they were worshippers of Us (alone). 73 To Lot We gave wisdom and knowledge and delivered him from the city which practiced abomination. They were indeed a wicked people. 74 Thus We admitted him to Our grace. He is surely one of the righteous. 75
