۞ Surely We had bestowed wisdom upon Abraham even earlier, and We knew him well. 51 when he said unto his father and his people, "What are these images to which you are so intensely devoted?" 52 They replied, "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said: "You and your fathers were in clear error." 54 They said, “Have you brought the Truth to us, or are you just making fun?” 55 He said: Aye! your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth Who created them, and as to that I am of the witnesses. 56 I swear by God I will do something to your idols when you have turned your backs and gone." 57 Then he reduced them to fragments, all save the chief of them, that haply they might have recourse to it. 58 They asked (on return): "Who has done this to our gods? He is surely a mischief-monger." 59 Said some [of them]: "We heard a youth speak of these [gods with scorn]: he is called Abraham." 60 They said, "Then bring him before the eyes of the people that they may testify." 61 They said: art thou the one who hath wrought this unto our gods, O Ibrahim? 62 He answered: "Rather it was this supreme one who has done it. So ask them, if they can speak." 63 So they turned to themselves and said: "Verily, you are the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers)." 64 Then they were made to hang down their heads: Certainly you know that they do not speak. 65 Abraham said, "So, do you worship something instead of God that can neither benefit you nor harm you? 66 Fie upon you and that you serve apart from God! Do you not understand?' 67 They said, “Burn him and help your Gods, if you want to.” 68 [But] We said: O fire! Be thou cool, and [a source of] inner peace for Abraham!" 69 And they desired a war on him, but We made them the greatest losers. 70 and We saved him and Lot and brought him to the land upon which We had bestowed Our blessings for all the people of the world. 71 And We gave him Ishaq and Yaqoub, a son's son, and We made (them) all good. 72 And We made them Imams who guided (people) by Our command, and We revealed to them the doing of good and the keeping up of prayer and the giving of the alms, and Us (alone) did they serve; 73 And Lut! We vouchsafed unto him judgment and knowledge, and We delivered him out of the city which had been working foul deeds; verily they were a people evil, wicked. 74 We admitted him to Our mercy; he was a righteous man. 75
