1/2 Hizb 33
< random >
۞ Before this We gave Abraham his virtue, for We knew him. 51 Recall, when he said to his father and his people: "What are these images to which you are devoutly clinging?" 52 They said, "We found our fathers worshippers of them." 53 He said: "Indeed you and your fathers have been in manifest error." 54 They said: "Are you speaking in earnest, or only jesting?" 55 He said: Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who created them; and I am of those who testify unto that. 56 And [he added to himself.] "By God, I shall most certainly bring about the downfall of your idols as soon as you have turned your backs and gone away!" 57 So he made them into fragments, except a large one among them, that they might return to it [and question]. 58 They said, 'Who has. done this with our gods? Surely he is one of the evildoers.' 59 Some of them said, "We heard a youth called Abraham speaking against the idols". 60 Said they: Then bring him before the eyes of the people, perhaps they may bear witness. 61 They said, "Have you done this to our gods, O Abraham?" 62 He answered, "Rather this biggest one of them did it. Ask them, if they can speak." 63 Then gathered they apart and said: Lo! ye yourselves are the wrong-doers. 64 Thereafter they were made to turn over upon their heads, saying, assuredly thou knowest that they speak not. 65 (So Abraham) said: "Then why do you worship something apart from God that cannot profit you or do you harm? 66 Woe to you for what you worship instead of God. Have you no understanding?" 67 They said, "Burn him and protect your gods, If ye do (anything at all)!" 68 We said: O fire! be thou cool and peace unto Ibrahim. 69 And they wished to set a snare for him, but We made them the greater losers. 70 We saved him and Lot, and brought them to the land which We had blessed for all the worlds. 71 And We bestowed him Ishaq, and Yaqub the grandson; and We made all of them worthy of Our proximity. 72 and appointed them to be leaders guiding by Our command, and We revealed to them the doing of good deeds, and to perform the prayer, and to pay the alms, and Us they served. 73 We bestowed upon Lot sound judgement and knowledge, and We delivered him from the city that was immersed in foul deeds. They were indeed a wicked people, exceedingly disobedient. 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy. Indeed, he was of the righteous. 75
