۞ We had earlier given Abraham true direction, for We knew him well. 51 When he said to his father and his people: What are these images to whose worship you cleave? 52 They said, "We found our fathers worshippers of them." 53 He said: "Certainly you and your fathers have all been in manifest error." 54 They said, "Have you come to us with truth, or are you of those who jest?" 55 'No' he answered, 'your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the Originator of them, and I am among those bearing witness to it. 56 By Allah, I shall certainly carry out my plan against your gods after you are gone." 57 So he broke them into fragments, all but a great one they had, for haply they would return to it. 58 They said, “Who has done this to our Gods? He is indeed cruel!” 59 They said: We heard a youth speak of them, who is called Ibrahim. 60 Their chiefs said, "Bring him before the eyes of the people and let them testify that he has spoken against the idols." 61 They said, "Abraham, was it you who did this to our deities?" 62 He answered, "Rather this biggest one of them did it. Ask them, if they can speak." 63 So they turned towards their own selves and (inwardly) said, “Indeed you yourselves are unjust.” 64 Then crestfallen (they confessed): "Truly, as you know, they cannot speak." 65 He said: Worship ye then instead of Allah that which cannot profit you at all, nor harm you? 66 Fie upon you and upon all that you worship beside Allah. Do you have no sense?" 67 They said: burn him, and succour your gods, if ye will be doing. 68 We said: O fire! be thou cool and peace unto Ibrahim. 69 They had devised an evil plan (against Abraham), but We turned it into failure." 70 and We delivered him, and Lot, unto the land that We had blessed for all beings. 71 And We bestowed on him Isaac and, as an additional gift, (a grandson), Jacob, and We made righteous men of every one (of them). 72 And We made them leaders who guide by Our command, and We sent them the divine revelation to do good deeds and to keep the prayer established and to give charity; and they used to worship Us. 73 And (as for) Lut, We gave him wisdom and knowledge, and We delivered him from the town which wrought abominations; surely they were an evil people, transgressors; 74 And We took him into Our mercy; surely he was of the good. 75
