۞ And We verily gave Abraham of old his proper course, and We were Aware of him, 51 Recall, when he said to his father and his people: "What are these images to which you are devoutly clinging?" 52 They replied: "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said: assuredly ye, ye and your fathers, have been in error manifest. 54 They said, 'What, hast thou come to us with the truth, or art thou one of those that play?' 55 He said, "[No], rather, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth who created them, and I, to that, am of those who testify. 56 And, by Allah, I shall circumvent your idols after ye have gone away and turned your backs. 57 So he smashed them up to pieces with the exception of the biggest, so that they may turn to it. 58 They said, "Who has done this to our gods? Indeed, he is of the wrongdoers." 59 Some of them said: "We heard a youth called Abraham speak (ill) of them." 60 They said, "Then bring him before the eyes of the people, that they may bear witness." 61 They said, 'So, art thou the man who did this unto our gods, Abraham?' 62 He said, 'No; it was this great one of them that did it. Question them; if they are able to speak!' 63 Then they thought and observed: "Surely you are yourselves unjust." 64 Thereafter they were made to turn over upon their heads, saying, assuredly thou knowest that they speak not. 65 (Abraham) said, "Do ye then worship, besides Allah, things that can neither be of any good to you nor do you harm? 66 Shame on you and on that you worship other than Allah! Have you no understanding' 67 They said: "Burn him, and save your gods, if you are men of action." 68 But We said, "Fire! Be cool and a means of safety for Abraham." 69 Then they sought a stratagem against him: but We made them the ones that lost most! 70 But We delivered him and (his nephew) Lut (and directed them) to the land which We have blessed for the nations. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac and Jacob as an additional gift, making each of them righteous. 72 We made them leaders who guided people by Our command. We revealed to them the doing of good, observance of prayer and the giving of alms and Us alone did they worship. 73 And unto Lot we gave judgment and knowledge, and We delivered him from the community that did abominations. Lo! they were folk of evil, lewd. 74 And We caused him to enter into Our mercy; verily he was of the righteous. 75
