۞ Before this We gave Abraham his virtue, for We knew him. 51 Recall, when he said to his father and his people: "What are these images to which you are devoutly clinging?" 52 They replied: "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said, 'Then assuredly you and your fathers have been in manifest error.' 54 They said, "Have you brought us the Truth, or are you one of those who jest?" 55 He said: Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who created them; and I am of those who testify unto that. 56 And [he added to himself.] "By God, I shall most certainly bring about the downfall of your idols as soon as you have turned your backs and gone away!" 57 So he smashed them up to pieces with the exception of the biggest, so that they may turn to it. 58 'Who has done this to our gods' they exclaimed. 'He must surely be a harmdoer' 59 They said: We heard a youth make mention of them, who is called Abraham. 60 [The others] said: "Then bring him before the peoples eyes, so that they might bear witness [against him]!" 61 They said, "Abraham, was it you who did this to our deities?" 62 He answered, "Rather this biggest one of them did it. Ask them, if they can speak." 63 Thereupon they realized their own foolishness and said, "We ourselves are wrong-doers". 64 Again they were inverted upon their heads; saying, “You know well that these do not speak.” 65 He said, "Then do you worship instead of Allah that which does not benefit you at all or harm you? 66 "Fie upon you, and upon that which you worship besides Allah! Have you then no sense?" 67 They cried: Burn him and stand by your gods, if ye will be doing. 68 But We said, "Fire! Be cool and a means of safety for Abraham." 69 and whereas they sought to do evil unto him, We caused them to suffer the greatest loss: 70 We took Abraham and Lot safely to the land in which We had sent blessings to the worlds. 71 And We gave him Ishaq and Yaqoub, a son's son, and We made (them) all good. 72 and appointed them to be leaders guiding by Our command, and We revealed to them the doing of good deeds, and to perform the prayer, and to pay the alms, and Us they served. 73 And Lot -- to him We gave judgment and knowledge; and we delivered him from the city that had been doing deeds of corruption; they were an evil people, truly ungodly; 74 and We admitted him into Our mercy; he was of the righteous. 75
