۞ And We had certainly given Abraham his sound judgement before, and We were of him well-Knowing 51 When he said to his father and his people: "What are these idols to which you cling so passionately?" 52 They replied: "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said: Verily ye and your fathers were in plain error. 54 They said: 'Is it the truth you have brought us, or are you one of those that play' 55 He said, “In fact, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the One Who created them; and I am of those who testify to it.” 56 “And, by oath of Allah, I shall seek to harm your idols after you have gone away and turned your backs.” 57 Then he broke them all into pieces, sparing only the supreme one among them that they may possibly return to him. 58 [When they saw what had happened,] they said: "Who has done this to our gods? Verily, one of the worst wrongdoers is he!" 59 They said: We heard a youth called Ibrahim speak of them. 60 They said, "Then bring him before the eyes of the people, that they may bear witness." 61 They said, "Have you done this to our gods, O Abraham?" 62 He said, "Rather, this - the largest of them - did it, so ask them, if they should [be able to] speak." 63 Then they thought and observed: "Surely you are yourselves unjust." 64 Then were they confounded with shame: (they said), "Thou knowest full well that these (idols) do not speak!" 65 [Ibrahim (Abraham)] said: "Do you then worship besides Allah, things that can neither profit you, nor harm you? 66 Woe to you for what you worship instead of God. Have you no understanding?" 67 They said, “Burn him and help your Gods, if you want to.” 68 We said: "O fire, become coolness and safety for Abraham." 69 They desired to outwit him; so We made them the worse losers, 70 and We saved him and Lot and brought him to the land upon which We had bestowed Our blessings for all the people of the world. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac, and Jacob as a grandson. Each of them We made righteous. 72 And We made them chiefs who guide by Our command, and We inspired in them the doing of good deeds and the right establishment of worship and the giving of alms, and they were worshippers of Us (alone). 73 And to Lut, too, We gave Judgment and Knowledge, and We saved him from the town which practised abominations: truly they were a people given to Evil, a rebellious people. 74 We admitted him to Our mercy; he was a righteous man. 75
