۞ We gave Abraham aforetime his rectitude -- for We knew him -- 51 when he said unto his father and his people, "What are these images to which you are so intensely devoted?" 52 They answered: "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said, "Indeed ye have been in manifest error - ye and your fathers." 54 They said, "Have you brought us the Truth, or are you one of those who jest?" 55 'No' he answered, 'your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the Originator of them, and I am among those bearing witness to it. 56 And, by God, I shall assuredly outwit your idols, after you have gone away turning your backs.' 57 So he broke them into pieces, except the chief of them, that haply they may return to it. 58 "Who has done this to our deities? He must be a wrongdoer." 59 Some of them said: "We heard a youth called Abraham speak (ill) of them." 60 They said: "Then bring him before the eyes of the people, that they may testify." 61 They said, "Abraham, was it you who did this to our deities?" 62 He said: "Nay, this was done by - this is their biggest one! ask them, if they can speak intelligently!" 63 So they turned to themselves and said: "Verily, you are the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers)." 64 Then were they confounded with shame: (they said), "Thou knowest full well that these (idols) do not speak!" 65 Said [Abraham]: "Do you then worship, instead of God, something that cannot benefit you in any way, nor harm you? 66 Fie on you and those you worship besides God! Will you not understand?" 67 They said, "Burn him and protect your gods, If ye do (anything at all)!" 68 But We said, "Fire! Be cool and a means of safety for Abraham." 69 They desired to outwit him; so We made them the worse losers, 70 And We delivered him and Lut to the land wherein We had placed Our blessings for the worlds. 71 And We bestowed upon him ls-haq and Ya qub as a grandson; and each one We made righteous. 72 and appointed them leaders to guide by Our Command and We revealed to them to do good deeds, and to establish the prayer, and the giving of charity, and they were for Us worshipers. 73 And to Lot We gave judgement and knowledge, and We saved him from the city that was committing wicked deeds. Indeed, they were a people of evil, defiantly disobedient. 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy. Indeed, he was of the righteous. 75
