۞ Before this We gave Abraham his virtue, for We knew him. 51 When he said to his father and his people, “What are these idols before whom you squat (worshipping)?” 52 They replied: 'We found our fathers worshipping them' 53 He said: "Indeed you and your fathers have been in manifest error." 54 They exclaimed, "Have you brought the Truth or are you joking?" 55 He said: "Nay, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who created them and of that I am one of the witnesses. 56 "And by Allah, I have a plan for your idols - after ye go away and turn your backs".. 57 So he broke them into pieces, except the chief of them, that haply they may return to it. 58 They said, "Who has done this to our gods? He must indeed be some man of impiety!" 59 Some of them said, "We heard a youth called Abraham speaking against the idols". 60 They said: bring him then before the eyes of the people, haply they may bear witness. 61 They said, "Art thou the one that did this with our gods, O Abraham?" 62 He said, "Rather, this - the largest of them - did it, so ask them, if they should [be able to] speak." 63 So they returned one to another, and they said, 'Surely it is you who are the evildoers.' 64 Then they were utterly put to confusion saying, 'Very well indeed thou knowest these do not speak.' 65 He said, "Then do you worship instead of Allah that which does not benefit you at all or harm you? 66 Fie upon you and upon that which ye worship beside Allah! Will ye not then reflect? 67 They said, "Burn him to ashes if you want to help your gods". 68 We said: O fire, be coolness and peace for Abraham, 69 And they intended for him harm, but We made them the greatest losers. 70 and We delivered him, and Lot, unto the land that We had blessed for all beings. 71 And We bestowed upon him Ishaque (Isaac), and (a grandson) Ya'qub (Jacob). Each one We made righteous. 72 and appointed them leaders to guide by Our Command and We revealed to them to do good deeds, and to establish the prayer, and the giving of charity, and they were for Us worshipers. 73 AND UNTO Lot, too, We vouchsafed sound judgment and knowledge [of right and wrong,] and saved him from that community which was given to deeds of abomination. [We destroyed those people - for,] verily, they were people lost in evil, depraved 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy. Indeed, he was of the righteous. 75
