۞ We had earlier given Abraham true direction, for We knew him well. 51 Abraham asked his father and his people, "What are these statues which you worship?" 52 They answered: "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said: "Indeed you and your fathers have been in manifest error." 54 They said: Have you brought to us the truth, or are you one of the triflers? 55 'No' he answered, 'your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the Originator of them, and I am among those bearing witness to it. 56 And, by Allah! I will certainly do something against your idols after you go away, turning back. 57 So he made them into fragments, except a large one among them, that they might return to it [and question]. 58 They said: who hath wrought this to our gods? verily he is of the wrong-doers. 59 They said: We heard a youth speak of them, who is called Ibrahim. 60 They said, 'Bring him before the people's eyes; haply they shall bear witness.' 61 They said, “Did you do this to our Gods, O Ibrahim?” 62 He replied, "I think the biggest among them has broken the smaller ones. Ask them if they are able to speak". 63 Then they turned to themselves and said: Surely you yourselves are the unjust; 64 But then they reversed their minds: 'You know they do not speak' 65 He said: What! do you then serve besides Allah what brings you not any benefit at all, nor does it harm you? 66 Fie upon you and upon that which ye worship beside Allah! Will ye not then reflect? 67 They said, "Burn him to ashes if you want to help your gods". 68 We said, "O Fire! be thou cool, and (a means of) safety for Abraham!" 69 And they desired a war on him, but We made them the greatest losers. 70 But We delivered him and (his nephew) Lut (and directed them) to the land which We have blessed for the nations. 71 We bestowed Isaac and then Jacob on him as an additional boon and We made all of them righteous. 72 And We made them leaders, guiding (mankind) by Our Command, and We inspired in them the doing of good deeds, performing Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), and the giving of Zakat and of Us (Alone) they were worshippers. 73 We bestowed upon Lot sound judgement and knowledge, and We delivered him from the city that was immersed in foul deeds. They were indeed a wicked people, exceedingly disobedient. 74 And We admitted him to Our Mercy, truly, he was of the righteous. 75
