۞ We bestowed aforetime on Abraham his rectitude of conduct, and well were We acquainted with him. 51 When he said to his father and his people: "What are these images, to which you are devoted?" 52 They answered: "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said, "Both you and your fathers have certainly been in error." 54 They exclaimed, "Have you brought the Truth or are you joking?" 55 He said: "Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth which He created and to that I bear witness before you. 56 And [I swear] by Allah, I will surely plan against your idols after you have turned and gone away." 57 And then he broke those [idols] to pieces, [all] save the biggest of them, so that they might [be able to] turn to it. 58 They said: Who hath done this to our gods? Surely it must be some evil-doer. 59 'We have heard a young man called Abraham mention them' they replied. 60 They said: bring him then before the eyes of the people, haply they may bear witness. 61 They said: art thou the one who hath wrought this unto our gods, O Ibrahim? 62 He said: "Nay, this was done by - this is their biggest one! ask them, if they can speak intelligently!" 63 So they returned to [blaming] themselves and said [to each other], "Indeed, you are the wrongdoers." 64 Then they were utterly put to confusion saying, 'Very well indeed thou knowest these do not speak.' 65 Abraham said, "So, do you worship something instead of God that can neither benefit you nor harm you? 66 Fie on you and those you worship besides God! Will you not understand?" 67 They said: "Burn him, and save your gods, if you are men of action." 68 We said, 'O fire, be coolness and safety for Abraham!' 69 And they intended to do him an evil, but We made them the worst losers. 70 And We delivered him and Lot to the land which We had blessed for the worlds. 71 We granted him Isaac and Jacob as a gift and helped both of them to become righteous people. 72 And We made them chiefs who guide by Our command, and We inspired in them the doing of good deeds and the right establishment of worship and the giving of alms, and they were worshippers of Us (alone). 73 And to Lut, too, We gave Judgment and Knowledge, and We saved him from the town which practised abominations: truly they were a people given to Evil, a rebellious people. 74 and We admitted him into Our mercy; he was of the righteous. 75
