۞ Surely We had bestowed wisdom upon Abraham even earlier, and We knew him well. 51 Abraham asked his father and his people, "What are these statues which you worship?" 52 They said, 'We found our fathers serving them.' 53 He said: "You and your fathers were in clear error." 54 They said, "Have you come to us with truth, or are you of those who jest?" 55 He said: Aye! your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth Who created them, and as to that I am of the witnesses. 56 Abraham said to himself, "By God! I will devise a plan against their idols when they are away." 57 So he broke them to pieces, (all) but the biggest of them, that they might turn (and address themselves) to it. 58 [When they saw what had happened,] they said: "Who has done this to our gods? Verily, one of the worst wrongdoers is he!" 59 'We have heard a young man called Abraham mention them' they replied. 60 They said: "Then bring him before the eyes of the people, that they may testify." 61 They said, "Art thou the one that did this with our gods, O Abraham?" 62 He answered, "Rather this biggest one of them did it. Ask them, if they can speak." 63 Then they thought and observed: "Surely you are yourselves unjust." 64 Then were they confounded with shame: (they said), "Thou knowest full well that these (idols) do not speak!" 65 [Ibrahim (Abraham)] said: "Do you then worship besides Allah, things that can neither profit you, nor harm you? 66 Uff to you and to what you worship instead of Allah. Then will you not use reason?" 67 They said, "Burn him and protect your gods, If ye do (anything at all)!" 68 We said: O fire! be thou cool and peace unto Ibrahim. 69 And they intended for him harm, but We made them the greatest losers. 70 and We saved him and Lot and brought him to the land upon which We had bestowed Our blessings for all the people of the world. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac and Jacob as an additional gift, making each of them righteous. 72 and appointed them leaders to guide by Our Command and We revealed to them to do good deeds, and to establish the prayer, and the giving of charity, and they were for Us worshipers. 73 And Lut! We vouchsafed unto him judgment and knowledge, and We delivered him out of the city which had been working foul deeds; verily they were a people evil, wicked. 74 And We caused him to enter into Our mercy; verily he was of the righteous. 75
