۞ We gave Abraham aforetime his rectitude -- for We knew him -- 51 When he said unto his father and his folk: What are these images unto which ye pay devotion? 52 They replied, "We found our fathers worshipping them". 53 He said: assuredly ye, ye and your fathers, have been in error manifest. 54 They said, “Have you brought the Truth to us, or are you just making fun?” 55 He said: Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who created them; and I am of those who testify unto that. 56 "And by Allah, I shall plot a plan (to destroy) your idols after you have gone away and turned your backs." 57 So he broke them into fragments, all but a great one they had, for haply they would return to it. 58 They said: "Who has done this to our aliha (gods)? He must indeed be one of the wrong-doers." 59 Some said, "We heard a young man, called Abraham, talking about them." 60 They said, "Then bring him before the eyes of the people, that they may bear witness." 61 They said, "Abraham, was it you who did this to our deities?" 62 [Ibrahim (Abraham)] said: "Nay, this one, the biggest of them (idols) did it. Ask them, if they can speak!" 63 So they returned one to another saying, 'Surely, it is you who are the harmdoers' 64 Then crestfallen (they confessed): "Truly, as you know, they cannot speak." 65 He said: worship ye, then, beside Allah, that which profiteth you not at all, nor it hurteth you? 66 Fie upon you and upon all that you worship instead of God! Will you not, then, use your reason?" 67 They said, "Burn him to ashes if you want to help your gods". 68 'O Fire' We said, 'be coolness and safety for Abraham' 69 Then they sought a stratagem against him: but We made them the ones that lost most! 70 And We saved him and Lot [and brought them] to a land which We had blessed for all people, 71 And We gave him Isaac and Jacob in addition, and all [of them] We made righteous. 72 And We made them leaders guiding by Our command. And We inspired to them the doing of good deeds, establishment of prayer, and giving of zakah; and they were worshippers of Us. 73 To Lot We gave knowledge and wisdom and saved him from the people of the town who were committing indecent acts. They were certainly a bad and sinful people. 74 and We admitted him into Our mercy; he was of the righteous. 75
