۞ Before this We gave Abraham his guidance. We knew him well. 51 When he said to his father and his people: "What are these idols to which you cling so passionately?" 52 They said: We found our fathers worshippers of them. 53 He said, 'Then assuredly you and your fathers have been in manifest error.' 54 They said: Have you brought to us the truth, or are you one of the triflers? 55 He said: Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who created them; and I am of those who testify unto that. 56 And, by God, I shall assuredly outwit your idols, after you have gone away turning your backs.' 57 He broke them all into pieces, except their great one so that they might return to it. 58 They said: Who has done this to our gods? Most surely he is one of the unjust. 59 They said: "We heard a youth talk about them. He is called Abraham." 60 Said they: Then bring him before the eyes of the people, perhaps they may bear witness. 61 "Did you do this to our gods, O Abraham?" they enquired. 62 He said: But this, their chief hath done it. So question them, if they can speak. 63 Then they thought and observed: "Surely you are yourselves unjust." 64 Again they were inverted upon their heads; saying, “You know well that these do not speak.” 65 [Ibrahim (Abraham)] said: "Do you then worship besides Allah, things that can neither profit you, nor harm you? 66 Fie upon you and upon all that you worship instead of God! Will you not, then, use your reason?" 67 They said, 'Burn him, and help your gods, if you would do aught.' 68 'O Fire' We said, 'be coolness and safety for Abraham' 69 They had sought to do evil to him, but We caused them to be the worst losers, 70 And We rescued him and Lut towards the land which We have blessed for the entire world. 71 We gave him, in excess, Isaac, and Jacob (for a grandson); and We made each righteous 72 And We made them Imams who guided (people) by Our command, and We revealed to them the doing of good and the keeping up of prayer and the giving of the alms, and Us (alone) did they serve; 73 And to Lot We gave judgement and knowledge, and We saved him from the city that was committing wicked deeds. Indeed, they were a people of evil, defiantly disobedient. 74 Thus We admitted him to Our grace. He is surely one of the righteous. 75
