۞ And certainly We gave to Ibrahim his rectitude before, and We knew him fully well. 51 When he said unto his father and his folk: What are these images unto which ye pay devotion? 52 They replied: 'We found our fathers worshipping them' 53 He said, "Indeed ye have been in manifest error - ye and your fathers." 54 They said: "Are you speaking in earnest, or only jesting?" 55 He said: "In fact it was your Lord, the Lord of the heavens and the earth, who created them; and I bear witness to this. 56 "And by Allah, I have a plan for your idols - after ye go away and turn your backs".. 57 Then he reduced them to fragments, all save the chief of them, that haply they might have recourse to it. 58 They said, "Who has done this to our gods? He must indeed be some man of impiety!" 59 Some of them said, "We heard a youth called Abraham speaking against the idols". 60 They said: 'Then bring him here so that the people may see, so that they may bear witness' 61 They asked, "Abraham, did you do this to our idols?" 62 He said: But this, their chief hath done it. So question them, if they can speak. 63 Then gathered they apart and said: Lo! ye yourselves are the wrong-doers. 64 Then were they confounded with shame: (they said), "Thou knowest full well that these (idols) do not speak!" 65 (So Abraham) said: "Then why do you worship something apart from God that cannot profit you or do you harm? 66 Uff to you and to what you worship instead of Allah. Then will you not use reason?" 67 They said: "Burn him, and save your gods, if you are men of action." 68 We said, “O fire, become cool and peaceful upon Ibrahim.” 69 They had sought to do evil to him, but We caused them to be the worst losers, 70 We took Abraham and Lot safely to the land in which We had sent blessings to the worlds. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac and Jacob as an additional gift, making each of them righteous. 72 And We made them leaders, guiding by Our command; and We revealed unto them the doing of good deeds and the establishment of prayer, and the giving of poor-rate; and of Us they were the worshippers. 73 To Lot We gave wisdom and knowledge, and saved him from a people who acted villainously and were certainly wicked and disobedient. 74 We encompassed him in Our mercy; he was a righteous man. 75
