۞ We gave Abraham aforetime his rectitude -- for We knew him -- 51 When he said unto his father and his folk: What are these images unto which ye pay devotion? 52 They said, 'We found our fathers serving them.' 53 Abraham said, "Indeed, you and your fathers have been clearly misguided." 54 They exclaimed, "Have you brought the Truth or are you joking?" 55 He said: "In fact it was your Lord, the Lord of the heavens and the earth, who created them; and I bear witness to this. 56 And, by Allah, I shall circumvent your idols after ye have gone away and turned your backs. 57 Then he broke them all into pieces, sparing only the supreme one among them that they may possibly return to him. 58 They asked (on return): "Who has done this to our gods? He is surely a mischief-monger." 59 Some of them said: "We heard a youth called Abraham speak (ill) of them." 60 They said: "Then bring him before the eyes of the people, that they may testify." 61 They said, "Abraham, was it you who did this to our deities?" 62 He answered, "Rather this biggest one of them did it. Ask them, if they can speak." 63 And so they turned upon one another, saying, "Behold, it is you who are doing wrong." 64 Then they were made to hang down their heads: Certainly you know that they do not speak. 65 (Abraham) said, "Do ye then worship, besides Allah, things that can neither be of any good to you nor do you harm? 66 Shame on you and on that you worship other than Allah! Have you no understanding' 67 They said, 'Burn him, and help your gods, if you would do aught.' 68 We said: "O fire, become coolness and safety for Abraham." 69 And they intended for him harm, but We made them the greatest losers. 70 We took Abraham and Lot safely to the land in which We had sent blessings to the worlds. 71 And We bestowed upon him Ishaque (Isaac), and (a grandson) Ya'qub (Jacob). Each one We made righteous. 72 And We made them leaders guiding by Our command. And We inspired to them the doing of good deeds, establishment of prayer, and giving of zakah; and they were worshippers of Us. 73 To Lot We gave knowledge and wisdom and saved him from the people of the town who were committing indecent acts. They were certainly a bad and sinful people. 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy. Verily he was of the righteous. 75
